Nuirn
Here is the text of Genesis 11:1-9 in Nuirn, a language that I have
been kicking around since at least 1976. I have a lot more material,
which I am slowly whipping into such a shape as to make a webpage out
of it, but it is some work.
The language began when I was in high school. Some friends
of mine were taking German classes, and I found out that I could understand
some of the German in Swedish with an appropriate mental squint.
We spoke German-Swedish to one another, and eventually broke down the
grammar and rebuilt it from the ground up, changing much in the interest
of making it more and more unintelligible to the uninitiated. I
invented the spelling system myself. It is not particularly phonetic,
but it serves some needs the language has: we apply umlaut to consonants
as well as vowels, because umlaut class changes the pronunciation of many
consonants, and as such it is necessary that the spelling make clear which
class a given consonant is in.
