DescriptionShafurow-9 is a distillation of the 26 Roman majuscules and 10 Arabic numerals into a 36-character alphabet based on nine symbols each shown in four rotations. The overriding design goal was to find nine runic shapes that could be rotated to suggest the essence of each letter and digit. The name comes from the default orientation of the first nine symbols - S H A F U R O W 9 - and is meant to be evocative of shaft, furrow, row.
InfluencesShafurow-9 was directly inspired by Aluwxn, and Patrick J. Dempsey has graciously given me permission to adapt and reuse his bitmaps. Only the symbols for A, D, E, J, L, M, T, V and W are identical in both scripts. Greek pi inspired the Shafurow-9 P. The only other neography I recall designing was a mock alphanumeric LCD display I created as a child that formed letters on a fixed template of seven straight and four diagnonal lines.
