DescriptionSLIPA stands for "sign language international phonetic alphabet". SLIPA is intended to be a transcription system which can be used to create an invented sign language. SLIPA was created because it seems likely that the reason there are (virtually) no invented sign languages is that there is no standardized method for transcribing sign, other than video or photography/drawings, which are expensive, cumbersome, or both. SLIPA is an attempt to fill the transcription void so that conlangers can start creating signed languages as easily and frequently as they do spoken and written languages.
