UniquenessDanan has been created to be an aesthetically-sounding natural language fake which delights in ambiguity. There are a number of unique points to this language.
  • Morphologically head-last but syntactically head-last, Danan depends on 'morphosyntactic tension' between these rules to function. Very common is the breaking of one of these rules to emphasize another.
  • -Strongly creative and polysynthetic.
  • -Interrogatives are verbs which require suffixes to denote their interrogative function (yes/no, informational and rhetorical questions). Without these suffixes they are roughly equivalent to verbs such as 'to be' and 'to have'.
Phrase symmetry in logically connected clause is also common.
Language SourcesWords have come from French, Japanese, Tahitian and other Polynesian languages, but Dananized so that they are often unrecognizable. The phonology is largely based on a mixture of Basque and Tahitian.
Design PrinciplesDanan was designed to be a very creative natural language fake, which encourages ambiguity and further development. Grammatical rule breakage is common and accepted.
Interest Of OthersA few friends have some interest in the principles behind it.
