Language Typemiscellaneous
UniquenessBahasan was primarily a "research language," a type not otherwise listed here. It was devised in order to test the process of vocabulary selection for an IAL called Acadon. Bahasan attempted to identify as many as possible potential root words from as many as possible of the languages of the world.
Language SourcesSources: All the languages of the world, to the extent that documentation was available. Besides the author's consultation of hundreds of dictionaries (and later, websites), potential contributions and comments were proffered by members of conlang mailing lists.
Design PrinciplesThe vocabulary was not designed to be readily readable to those of any linguistic culture. It was, however, designed to discover as many familiar roots as possible that would provide "memory hooks" for as many persons as possible -- worldwide. The grammar was trivial, only sufficiently formulated as to help display vocabulary in sentences; this made it close to some pidgins.
Interest Of OthersThe purpose was not to launch an IAL called Bahasan, and no attempts were made to invoke others to use it. Some persons on the Internet were however sufficiently interested as to request data for learning it as a language, and in two cases, data for teaching it to newborn babies as their first language. Several IAL projects seem to have picked up bit and pieces of Bahasan words. Its primary use has been to help the author and others to design a language (IAL) called Acadon, not yet published.
