Introduction | Trurian is a language spoken by the Trurian people, living in the area around the Oattis (Altleís) and Alnaís (also Elonga, Alnalýs or Gyrnecan) rivers in the westernmost part of Carbia. It is, of course, a fictional language, entirely of my own coining, but it feels good to have at least a bit of background to it. |

Interlinear Translation 1 | [Now] [world] [all] [one] [speech] [common] [she had]. |
Translation 2 | [When] [eastwards] [people] [they travelled], [in Shinar] [plain] [they found] [and] [there] [they settled]. |
Translation 3 | [They] [to them] [they said]: [Baked clay] [should we make] [and] [perfectly] [him] [should we bake]. [Instead] [stone block] [baked clay] [and] [about] [joining] [sap] [black] [they used]. |
Translation 4 | [Then] [-] [they said]: [To us] [city] [of tower] ,[that] [skywards] [of him] [reaches], [should we build], [so] [to us] [name] [may we create] [and] [on earth] [on whole] [not we be scattered]. |
Translation 5 | [But] [downwards] [The one who rules] [-] [he came],[so] [city] [and] [tower],[that] [people] [they were building], [may he see]. |
Translation 6 | [-] [he said]: [If] [that] [they] [of language] [one] [this] [have begun doing], [possible] [everything] [about] [them] [they want to do]. |
Translation 7 | [Downwards] [we should go] [and] [language] [their] [we should break] [so] [them] [will they not understand]. |
Translation 8 | [From there] [on earth] [on whole] [The one who rules] [them] [-] [scattered] [and] [they] [city] [stopped they building]. |
Translation 9 | [For that] [he] [of Babel] [-] [was he named] - [there] [because] [The one who rules] [language] [of world] [whole] [-] [he broke]. |
Notes 1 | -each pair of square brackets signifies a single world; a dash [-] signifies a word without full meaning (mostly thol, signifying past tense before simple verbs) -many words (especially verbs) may signify more than one word in English - this is simply due to general inflection of the verbs, plus the usage of prefixes to signify passive voice, subjunctive mood, termination of the main verb etc. -the word ele 'world' is feminine in gender (therefore 'she had' in 1A.) -Trurian has no word for 'brick' - therefore the compound noun nömchiwtha in 3A., from nömô(n) 'to bake' and chiwtha 'clay'; similar with 'tar', which becomes 'black sap' (chymaw nächreí). |
