Interlinear Translation 1And has-had the whole world one language and one speech.
Translation 2And they have traveled from east and they have found Shinear Plain andthey have settled there.
Translation 3And the men have said to each other: let us go [and] make bricks and bake [them] on fire! And [there] have been bricks for them instead of stone and tar instead of mortar.
Translation 4And they have said: Come let us build for us a city and a tower and its top in the sky and make us a name so that [we should] not scatter over the face of the whole earth!
Translation 5And the Lord has descended so that to see the city and the tower that the men has been building.
Translation 6And the Lord has said: Here is one people and one language for all and they have begun to do this and now it will not be impossible for them [to do] anything that [they] initiate to do!
Translation 7Come and let us descend and confuse there their language so that [the] men do not understand the speech of each other!
Translation 8And the Lord has scattered them from there over the face of the whole Earth and they have stopped building the city.
Translation 9For this they have called it Babel, because there the Lord confused the languages of the whole world and from there the Lord has scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
