English Paraphrase 1The whole world used one language.
Paraphrase 2Men went east, found a field in Shinar and settled there.
Paraphrase 3The men said, "We shall make some bricks and heat them well." They used bricks instead of stone and tar for mortar.
Paraphrase 4Then they said, "We shall make a city with a tower that reaches the sky so that we can make a name for ourselves and not be separated over all the earth."
Paraphrase 5But God came down to see the city and the tower that the men were making.
Paraphrase 6God said, "If the men start to do this as one people speaking the same language, then nothing they want to do will be impossible.
Paraphrase 7I shall go down to change their language so they cannot communicate."
Paraphrase 8So God scattered the men over all the earth, and they did not finish building their city.
Paraphrase 9The story explains the name "Babel" - because there God changed the language of the whole world. From there God scattered the men over all the earth.
