Language Name Obrenje Language Author Christian Thalmann Year Began 2000 Site Obrenje Broken Link No Site Language English Language Type fictional language Uniqueness Obrenje is a fairly well-behaving language. Phonology is aesthetic in a rustic but fluid way, using six vowel phonemes and consonants with palatized allophones. Orthography is totally regular but non-trivial. Vocabulary is a priori. Syntax is liberal VSO with some useful OVS structures. Grammar is mostly inflecting or isolating, with somewhat complex but reasonably regular verb paradigms, and nouns inflecting for definiteness (and nothing else!). It has a native script. Language Sources The initial inspiration was Slavic, but the language has evolved out of that cradle. I assume there to be many subliminal influences from other languages. Design Principles I started out with phonology, which is IMHO one of the most important features of a conlang, since it defines how it's going to act upon listeners. I try to make Obrenje sound nice, but sometimes it won't let me... it has a will of its own. ;-) Interest Of Others Obrenje has been used by me in the RPG world-building project "Planet Pii" by Natalia Gruscha et al., and is currently part of the Creative Conclave RPG Worldbuilding Project.
