UniquenessGa Long Wer, e-ngwa téma yae. - "What is Long Wer, no one can say." Long Wer is a language I created for my "animal fantasy" novel Hia and Mau. It is the language of Cats and other felines of our age. It is intended to be musical and well-sounding. Its basic vocabulary is from Egyptian, and as it is, mainly VSO, though it has a lot of cases and agglutinates words for everything. LW belongs to the Meyadhewic language family, whose child languages descend from Archaic Meyadhew. a language spoken by the carnivores of our Earth around 65 million years ago. LW is the language of the feline culture, education and literature. I have a lot of texts in LW, as many translations as native LW ones. For more info, see the web site.
Language SourcesAy, qey aláya ù noye nielongenna! - "O, how wonderful is creating a fair tongue!" It is long to say: Egyptian, English, Quenya, Hungarian, French, Latin and Zulu. At first, Ancient Egyptian was the basis I built on (for example the words Rìa, sehem, netyer) with the laziness of English, though I had more feeling than knowledge about this language. The writing system is also based on the hieroglyphs. Then I met Tolkien's Quenya. This made my language more musical. And then I decided to use some features of my mother tongue Hungarian such as vowel harmony, big compounds and agglutination (LW was isolating before). I also borrowed recently a sort of liaison from French and the idea of compact sentences from Latin. And from 1994 when I saw The Lion King, Zulu impressed me. Thus, I have some Bantu-ish words like 'Ngewante' or 'Ingonyama'. (And Meyadhew is built on Bantu bases, using a noun-class system and clicks.)
Design PrinciplesLong Wer is a highly agglutinating language. It uses a lot of cases (8 basic and over 10 additional) for nouns and an elaborate but easy-to-use verbal system (with 4 degrees of evidentiality [unmarked, supposed, hearsay, experience], 6 tenses, 3 moods [active, transitive, passive], 2 auxiliary affixes for habitual or continuous actions). For syntax, it is somewhat like Latin, with complex and pointed sentences.
Interest Of OthersWell, I have only two people so far who want to learn it. We will soon start the courses. Only a few are interested, mostly other conlangers. But when I finish my novel Hia and Mau, I hope I can publish it and some people will be interested or even want to learn.
