Verse 1Un iaith ac un ymadrodd oedd i'r holl fyd.
Verse 2Wrth ymdeithio yn y dwyrain, cafodd y bobl wastadedd yng ngwlad Sinar a thrigo yno.
Verse 3A dywedasant wrth ei gilydd, "Dewch, gwnawn briddfeini a'u crasu'n galed." Priddfeini oedd ganddynt yn lle cerrig, a phyg yn lle calch.
Verse 4Yna dywedasant, "Dewch, adeiladwn i ni ddinas, a thŵr a'i ben yn y nefoedd, a gwnawn inni enw, rhag ein gwasgaru dros wyneb yr holl ddaear."
Verse 5Disgynnodd yr Arglwydd i weld y ddinas a'r tŵr yr oedd meibion dynion wedi eu hadeiladu,
Verse 6a dywedodd, "Y maent yn un bobl a chanddynt un iaith; y maent wedi dechrau gwneud hyn, a bellach ni rwystrir hwy mewn dim y bwriadant ei wneud.
Verse 7Dewch, disgynnwn, a chymysgu eu hiaith hwy yno, rhag iddynt ddeall ei gilydd yn siarad."
Verse 8Felly gwasgarodd yr Arglwydd hwy oddi yno dros wyneb yr holl ddaear, a pheidiasant ag adeiladu'r ddinas.
Verse 9Am hynny gelwir ei henw Babel, oherwydd yno y cymysgodd yr Arglwydd iaith yr holl fyd, a gwasgarodd yr Arglwydd hwy oddi yno dros wyneb yr holl ddaear.
Interlinear Translation 1One language and one speech was to the whole world.
Translation 2At travelling in the east, found the people plain in land Shinar and dwelling there.
Translation 3And said-they at his fellow, "Come-ye, make-we bricks and-their baking as hard." Bricks were with them in place stones, and pitch in place lime.
Translation 4Then said-they, "Come-ye, build-we to us city, and tower and-its top in the heavens, and make-we to us name, lest our scattering over face the whole earth."
Translation 5Descended the Lord to seeing the city and the tower that was sons men after their building,
Translation 6and said-he, "That are-they as one people and with-them one language; that are-they after beginning building this, and by-now not there-hinders them in anything that intend-they its doing.
Translation 7Come-ye, descend-we, and mixing their language they there, lest to-them understanding his fellow in speaking."
Translation 8So scattered the Lord them from there over face the whole earth, and stopped-they with building the city.
Translation 9For that there-calls its name Babel, because there that mixed the Lord language the whole world, and scattered the Lord them from there over face the whole earth.
English Paraphrase 1The whole world had one language and one speech.
Paraphrase 2Travelling to the west, the people found a plain in the land of Shinar and dwelt there.
Paraphrase 3And they said to each other, "Come, let us make bricks and bake them hard." They had bricks in place of stones, and pitch in place of lime.
Paraphrase 4Then they said, "Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
Paraphrase 5The Lord came down to see the city and the tower the sons of men had built,
Paraphrase 6and he said, "They are one people and have one language; they have begun to build this, and now nothing can stop them doing anything they intend to do.
Paraphrase 7Come, let us go down, and confuse their language there, lest they understand each other's speech."
Paraphrase 8So the Lord scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth, and they did not build the city.
Paraphrase 9Because of that the place is called Babel, because the Lord confused the language of the whole world, and the Lord scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth.
