English Paraphrase 1 | Long ago the whole world had one language and one understanding. |
Paraphrase 2 | As the people migrated eastward, they found a great field in Shinar and settled themselves there. |
Paraphrase 3 | They said to each other, " Come, we will make many bricks and we will burn them." They had brick in place of stone and tar in place of motar. |
Paraphrase 4 | Then they said, "Come, we will build a city with a tower reaching to heaven. In this way we will make a name for ourselves and not be divided by anyone else across the world." |
Paraphrase 5 | But the devine King came down to see the city and the tower, these things that the people were building. |
Paraphrase 6 | The devine king said, "If being one people and speaking one language they do this, then nothing will be out of reach for them that they plan to do. |
Paraphrase 7 | Come, we will go down and break the language of them so that they will not understand each other. |
Paraphrase 8 | So the devine King divided them across the world and they stopped building the city. |
Paraphrase 9 | So they named it Babel, because there the devine King broke the language of the whole world and divided them across the world. |
