IntroductionThis wasn't really a serious project, and I was just playing around to see if I could make a language that was very dependent on vowels. The finished version has 24, and only twelve consonants. Consonants are pronounced as in English (š is pronounced as /sh/). Vowel pronunciation is complicated, see the website for more details. As I've said, this wasn't really a serious project and I've only been working on it for twelve hours total INCLUDING substantial breaks. There may be mistakes, and I hope to correct them as soon as possible. The name Vônánà means simply 'language'.
Verse 1Vônánà nà bî â vè kàtù.
Verse 2Íltà ša tulá â pé. Ô kîkà â íltàšì (we íltà ša vônî Šině).
Verse 3Ô vôn â ûm ô šá bî â: Be atú î bobô ša ûm be po kákù î ô. Ô kúl â bobô ša vŷ bibî ša ûm lě mŷ pîši.
Verse 4Ûm ô šá mè â: Be mab î mabè kè ù ša ûm be mab î wélâkù ù. Wélâkù kùlù î ùs mabì. Mémé íltà ša kôkô î ô ûm ô mèlo î si.
Verse 5Mo Bì kîkà â mabè kè ša ûm o tǒ â wélâkù kě íltà ša mab â mé.
Verse 6Ûm Bì šá â: Te ô múl mé àtú tîà mé tŷ, mŷ ô vôn mé vônánà nà ětú, ô múl î àtú î vê.
Verse 7O šá â: ba múlàtùs î vônánà tô ô mémé ô vèlè î si.
Verse 8Ûm Bì mèlo â ô dimè vínu, ûm ô múl â si mab tútàtú â mabè kè ša.
Verse 9Mémé o ísà mé Babèl, kâtê ka Bì múlàtùs â vônánà tô íltà ša. Ka Bì mèlo â íltà ša dimè vínu.
Interlinear Translation 1Language one exist past-tense in world.
Translation 2Person plural move past-tense east. They come-to past-tense country (where person plural call Šině).
Translation 3They talk past-tense and they say past-tense: We make future-tense brick plural and we bake thoroughly future-tense them. They use past-tense brick plural instead-of stone plural and tar as mortar.
Translation 4And they say also past-tense: We build future-tense house indefinite-article many plural and we build future-tense tower indefinite-article. Tower reach future-tense to heaven. So person plural remember future-tense us and we disperse future-tense negative-particle.
Translation 5But God come-to past-tense house many plural and he see past-tense tower that person plural build past-tense progressive-aspect.
Translation 6And God say past-tense: If they can progressive-aspect do now progressive-aspect this, as they speak progressive-aspect language one just, they be-able-to future-tense do future-tense anything.
Translation 7He say past-tense: I confuse future-tense language of them so they understand future-tense negative particle.
Translation 8And God scatter past-tense them across planet, and they can past-tense negative-particle build anymore past-tense house many plural.
Translation 9So it be-called progressive-aspect Babèl, because there God confuse past-tense language of person plural. There God scatter past-tense person plural across planet.
English Paraphrase 1One language existed in the world.
Paraphrase 2The people moved eastwards. They came to the country that people call Shinar.
Paraphrase 3They talked and they said, “We will make bricks and we will bake them thoroughly.” They used bricks instead of stones and tar as mortar.
Paraphrase 4And they said also, “We will build a city and we will build a tower. The tower will reach to Heaven. So people will remember us and we will not be dispersed.”
Paraphrase 5But God came to the city and he saw the tower that the people were building.
Paraphrase 6And God said, “If they can do this now, as they speak just one language, they will be able to do anything.”
Paraphrase 7He said, “I will confuse their language so they do not understand each other.”
Paraphrase 8And God scattered them across the planet, and they could no longer build the city.
Paraphrase 9And so it is called Babel, because there God confused the language of the people. There God scattered the people across the planet.
