Interlinear Translation 1And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
Translation 2And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Translation 3And they said one to another: 'Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly.' And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.
Translation 4And they said: 'Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, with its top in heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.'
Translation 5And HaShem came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Translation 6And HaShem said: 'Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do; and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do.
Translation 7'Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.'
Translation 8So HaShem scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city.
Translation 9Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because HaShem did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did HaShem scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
English Paraphrase 1The world one language, one dialect it possessed. Alternate paraphrase: All the world one language, one dialect it possessed.
Paraphrase 2It happened, from the east in their wandering, in the Shinar-land, a long plain they found; in this place they dwelled.
Paraphrase 3To each other they said: 'Come, bricks we must make, in thoroughness their things burn. For stone bricks they had, for mortar slime they had.
Paraphrase 4They said: 'Come, city for ourselves we must build, tower, in heaven its top, name we must make; of all the world on its face lest we are scattered.'
Paraphrase 5God, He descended. The City, the tower to see the beings' children they built.
Paraphrase 6God He said: "See. One people they are. One language they all have. This action they begin. In their purpose denied they will not be."
Paraphrase 7'Come, we must descend, their language to confound. Each other's language they will not understand.'
Paraphrase 8God, the people from that place on all the world's face the people He scattered; the city to be built they abandoned.
Paraphrase 9In result, Babel it was named; because God all the earth's language He confused.
Notes 1There is no translation for 'and' in Üqoi. Also, I thought it truer to the original text to replace gzhïïmoös, which means 'the planet', with ths'ööq'ii'ïï, which means 'world'. Furthermore, while there is an affix meaning 'all'(-mi-), it is rarely used. I have included an alternate translation to reflect this.
Notes 2I've made a grammatical change, regarding the gen.-adj.-poss., thus Shiishiinäädheghdhiplhüü'üün, instead of dhedheplhüüshiighdhinää'ää.
Notes 3Coming
Notes 4Coming
Notes 5Same as applies to Verse 2.
