Interlinear Translation 1And all the earth had one voice and one tongue.
Translation 2As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and they made it their house place.
Translation 3And they said one to another, "Go to, let us make bricks, and burn them good." And they had brick for stone, and slime they had for mortar.
Translation 4And they said, "Go to, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top will go up as high as god and all his angels; and let us make a big name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
Translation 5And the Lord God came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Translation 6And the Lord said, "See, they are all one people and have all one tongue; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be kept from them, which they have imagined to do.
Translation 7Go to, let us go down and make their tongue noise, so they will not understand one another."
Translation 8So the Lord God sent them abroad upon the face of the earth; and they left off building the city.
Translation 9So the name of it is Babel, because there the Lord God and all his angels took away the meaning of all tongues; and from there the Lord sent them away over all the face of the earth.
