English Paraphrase 1 | And all of the land had one language and common words. |
Paraphrase 2 | And when they traveled from the east, they found a field in the land of Shinar and lived there. |
Paraphrase 3 | And they said, everyone to everyone: "Come! Let us make bricks and burn them completely." And brick was stone for them, and clay was mortar for them. |
Paraphrase 4 | And they said: "Come! Let us build a city and a tower and its head in the sky; and let us make a name on behalf of ourselves, lest we be scattered on the face of the whole land." |
Paraphrase 5 | And Yahweh descended to see the city and the tower which the sons of man had built. |
Paraphrase 6 | And Yahweh said: "Behold, one nation and one language for all of them, and this they have begun to do. And now, [it] will not be denied from them everything they plan to do. |
Paraphrase 7 | Come! Let Us descend and let Us confuse their language here, so that they will not hear the language of everyone to everyone." |
Paraphrase 8 | And Yahweh scattered them from there on the face of the whole land, and they ceased (ended) to build the city. |
Paraphrase 9 | Therefore they (impersonal) called its name Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of the whole land, and from there Yahweh scattered them on the face of the whole land. |
