Tanach-a Shile - Conlang Profile   Advanced
Language NameTanach-a Shile
Language AuthorDoug Ball
Year Began2002
SiteTanach-a Shile
Broken LinkNo
Site LanguageEnglish
Language Typefictional language
UniquenessIts seemingly random set of natlang influences combine (with the author's imperfect knowledge of them) to create a unique feel to the language. It is a mostly isolating SOV language, a less common type of language. Finally, its design was somewhat constrained by the language's "commissioner," making the project more collaborative than most.
Language SourcesWhile Tanach-a Shile has an a priori lexicon and an a priori combination of structures, Tanach-a Shile borrows elements from (in no particular order) Swahili, South American languages, Japanese, Hindi/Urdu, and Siuslaw (an extinct Native American language of Oregon).
Design PrinciplesLinguistic data (typological and language specific) + my own creativity + specifications from the "commissioner" (see below).
Interest Of OthersThe language was "commissioned" by my friend, Rebecca Montange, for use in a work of fiction she is working on. The language was constrained by the names she had already invented and some basic design ideas that she had.
