Site LanguageEnglish
Site AuthorRick Harrison
Language Typeinternational auxiliary language
Language SourcesA priori, but in his book Searight references Persian, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and English. Author seems to consider the language to sound very Japanese.
Design PrinciplesLike many, Searight sought to create an international auxiliary language less Eurocentric than {list of all euroclones here}. Sona is an isolating and agglomerative language. It attempts to use easy-to-pronounce consonants, has one- or two-syllable root terms, SVO form. Pronouns and the verb "to be" are (very) optional. There's a very minimal lexicon -- Searight mentions Roget's thesaurus -- but unlike similar tiny languages, Sona seems to be complete enough for real usage: 375 words (360 "radicals" plus 15 "particles").
