Language Typefictional diachronic language
UniquenessThe language consists of words and categories. Categories are grammatical positions similar to the positions Subject, Verb, Object, etc. They take the place of verbs. Categories fall into different sequences signaled by words called emblems. Other words are placed in the categories. All words are nouns and operators -- words which modify nouns and categories. The basic word pattern is agglutinative, with roots and particles joining to make complex words. An example of a sequence might resemble [thesis - antithesis - synthesis], with nouns placed in each and the meanings of the categories showing change. "The man painted the white house green" might fall into a sequence [(this category extends into the next)(this category has the prior one extending into it)]. The words would be [(house, white; man, hand 1 green paint bucket, hand 2 brush) (house, green; man, hand 1 empty bucket, hand 2 green brush)]. Although I have to use verbs to convey this, the categories exist only as static geometrical forms in speakers' minds.
Language SourcesNone. As far as I know, there are no such languages.
Design PrinciplesThe wish is to make up a totally alien language. I doubt humans could use a language like this, especially one as elaborate as the full description. It's used by a nation called Shondar, the dominant culture of the planet Pandalar. The inhabitants are centauroid beings descended from a woodland creature living in small herds.
Interest Of OthersNobody else is involved, though I did sell some copies of my 30-page outline (1995). I don't know if anyone has done anything with the basic idea.
