Language Name Paiodd Language Author Jeremy Graves Year Began 2000 Site Paiodd Broken Link No Site Language English Language Type fictional language Uniqueness Paiodd features a unique inflectional system for nouns based on their relationship to verbs or other nouns as opposed to based on their role in the sentence or such things as gender or number. Additionally, these inflectional relationships are demonstrated by different phonetic values of the same phonetic class. Language Sources English inflection such as run-ran/strong-strength inspired the stem-changing method of inflection for both verbs and nouns. Also, the language was originally inspired by Latin and Greek, though it has changed dramatically since then. I'm also a fan of the Romance languages, and there are some influences from them. Design Principles Again, the nouns feature two inflections: verbal and nominal to indicate which other part of speech they are related too. This eliminates the need for adjectives and adverbs, which are expressed by the respective inflections. Verbs are divided into tense systems and specific tenses. Interest Of Others Actually, I used Paiodd as a basis for an undergraduate research project in which I described how various types of conlangs can have application to linguistics as a whole. I hope to post that paper as well. I'm fairly certain it was this research that got me into graduate school!
