Language Typefictional language
UniquenessIt's not a human language, so I expect it to be different from most human languages, though it's too soon to tell yet (the language is less than two months old when I write this). It's got a purposefully difficult phonology, which I doubt any human language has, and a strange case system mixing the (already rare) ergative/absolutive system with our familiar nominative/accusative system, according to the person of the subject and object. It doesn't have third person pronouns (not that strange, really -- Latin didn't either), and it has five levels of deixis: things on the speaker's power, things at hand, things within sight, things not within sight but perceived by smell, touch or intuition, and things outside the reach of one's senses. This deixis system is, as far as I know, unique.
Language SourcesSemitic languages have influenced it in the phonology a bit, and more in the syntax, which is rather analytic, verb-first, with adjectives following nouns. Through my scarce hearsay knowledge of African languages G'amah got its implosive consonants, and the inspiration for its weird case system is Dyirbal, an Australian language.
Design PrinciplesI'm trying to produce a language that is best shouted, that doesn't fit on a nice poem or a romantic song, a language of an aggresive people. Its words must be harsh, short and powerful (like the fall of a hammer on a rotten branch or on a dusty ground).
Interest Of OthersThere are no people involved but me. The language was started to give a background to a roleplaying setting, and a couple of my gamemates have said they're impressed with the language, even if they didn't understand some of the linguistic nuances.
