Language Sa-oh Ghikh Year 2004 Translator Rodlox Introduction This is the first conlang for which I've made a Babel Text. One of the oddities in this conlang is that the time-related tenses are connected with whether one is giving or recieving. Wish me [good] luck! (By the way, the s' is a [S] /sh/ sound in X-Sampa.) Verse 1 Ghoure, s'ah, s'ah sa-oh s'eh. dusu s'oh sa-oh. Verse 2 Ghore, ubdusy, undaumzy, si-obe sa-id sa-id Shin'ar, sudyusuzy sudyususya. Verse 3 Ghoure, dyenazy s'eh ghore, dyenazy s'eh, so-edasye, so-edezy. Khore. So-ede susudu so-ebe, so-ad susudu so-ibe. Verse 4 Ghoure, ghore "S'ah s'aih, ghikh s'ah so-iibe, sudu s'ah so-iibe so-ibe, sudu s'ah so-iibe so-ibe so-ud, dusudu dususu, s'ahasye s'aih, s'ehazy sudu s'eh sudu s'eh so-id." Khore. Verse 5 Ghoure sudu, s'iih sobesy sobezy, si-obe s'ah so-iibe, sudu si-obe s'ah so-iibe so-ibe dyen dyen ghikh. Verse 6 Ghoure, sudu s'iih ghore "S'aih sobe! S'eh, s'eh sa-ih siihe s'ah dyen dyen, sudu dyen dyenasye dyenazye dyenazy ghikh. Dususu sudu, si-obesye si-obe, s'ah si-obesy si-ebezya." Khoure. Verse 7 Ghoure, sudu s'iih ghore "Sobe! S'aih sudu s'aih sudu s'aih, sabesye sobezy, sudu s'aih sudu s'aih sudu s'aih so-ed so-iid s'aoh sa-ih, sa'ihasy sa-ohzya sudu sa-ohzya sudu sa-ohzya." Khore. Verse 8 Ghoure, sudu s'iih, s'ah dyen dyenasye, s'eh dyen dyen sudu s'eh dyen dyen sudu s'eh dyen dyen, si-abe siibede so-id, sudu ghikh s'ah sa-iibesye, s'ah sa-iibezy. Verse 9 Ghoure, s'ah s'iibe s'ibe "Babel", susu dususu sa-oh so-ed so-iid sa-ih sudu, s'ah so-ed so-iid sa-oh, s'ah dyen dyenasye, s'eh dyen dyen sudu s'eh dyen dyen sudu s'eh dyen dyen, si-abe siibede so-id, sudu ghikh s'ah sa-iibesye, khoure. Interlinear Translation 1 It was narrated to me thusly, all, all word singular, but some word. Translation 2 It was narrated to me thusly, east past tense, direction unknown present tense, find land land Shinar, live present tense live future tense. Translation 3 It was narrated to me thusly, man gave singular he narrated, man recieved singular, "mud gave past tense, brick recieved." He finished narrating. Brick as well as stone, clay as well as items. Translation 4 It was narrated to me thusly, "All you, craft all dwelling, and all dwelling item, and all dwelling item sky. However therefore, all past tense you, singular present tense and singular and singular land." And he finished narrating. Translation 5 It was narrated to me thusly, and other to past tense to present tense, find all dwelling, and find all dwelling item men men craft. Translation 6 It was narrated to me thusly, and other narrated "You look! Singular, singular words of all men, and men men gave men recieved men recieve craft. However and find past tense find no present tense, all find present tense have future tense." And he finished narrating. Translation 7 It was narrated to me thusly, and other narrated "To! You and you and you, from past tense to present tense, and you and you and you mud water they words, words present tense word future tense and word future tense and word future tense." And he finished narrating. Translation 8 It was narrated to me thusly, and other, all men past tense, singular men and singular men and singular men, lost upon/across land, and the making of all dwellings stopped. Translation 9 It was narrated to me thusly, all dwellings item and all dwellings "Babel", because so/therefore other mud water words and mud water word, and other, all men past tense, singular men and singular men and singular men, lost upon/across land,, and thus was it narrated to me. English Paraphrase 1 I was told that all, all one word, but some words. Paraphrase 2 I was told that, from the east, to an unknown direction, find land - land of Shinar, living now to in the future. Paraphrase 3 I was told that a man narrated to another man, "mud becomes brick," and finished narrating. Brick like stone, clay like things. Paraphrase 4 I was told that "Everyone! Make all the dwellings, and a thing for the dwellings, and a thing of all dwellings in sky. Risk - we were [in potential to be] becoming one and one and one now on land." And he finished narrating. Paraphrase 5 I was told that the other went to and found the many dwellings, and found all dwellings' things crafted by men. Paraphrase 6 I was told that the other spoke "Look! One - one words for all men, and men began to built it. And, finding incomplete, all finding become having. And that is what he said. Paraphrase 7 I was told that the other said "To! All of you, move to & all of you muddy/obscure their words, from current words to word and word and word that will be." And that is what he said. Paraphrase 8 I was told that that the other took all men, and made them many separate men, let them be lost upon/across the lands, and nothing more was built. Paraphrase 9 I was told that all dwellings and all dwellings' things "Babel", because thererefore other languages and language were muddied/obscured; the other took all men, and made them many separate men, let them be lost upon/across the lands, and that is what I had been told. Notes 1 As I mentioned above, the time-related tenses are connected to whether one is giving or recieving...which tends to mess with things that are neither of those two. Notes 4 Of course, hazards are fun to make in this language - it's a matter of circumlocution. There is no concept (at least not yet) in this conlang, for "making a name". Then again, right now, they don't even have names. :) Notes 5 Descent is a tricky thing...again, the whole recipient thing comes into play. "Ghikh" would have been in past tense, but that then it would have been required to be given/completed to something/someone. See what I have to put up with in this language? :) Notes 7 The word for "not here" is "sa-iihe" which means "deaf". Somehow I doubt that that was the original intention. Also, the language is interchangable with "word" and "language".
