Interlinear Translation 1In the beginning the whole world was uniform in language and in deeds.
Translation 2As they wandered to the East, they came to a plain in the Shinear land, and settled there.
Translation 3Then they said to one another, "Come on! Let's make bricks and bake them hard." They had bricks instead of stones and tar instead of clay.
Translation 4Then they said, "Let's build a town with a tower that reaches the sky, so that we can make a name for ourselves and not be scattered all over the earth."
Translation 5Then the Lord came down to see the town and the tower which the human sons had built.
Translation 6The Lord said, "Now then, these are all one people and they all have one language. And this is just the beginning of what they are going to do. Soon they will be able to do anything they want.
Translation 7Let us go down and confuse their language so that they will not understand one another."
Translation 8So the Lord scattered them all over the earth, and they stopped building the town.
Translation 9It was called Babel (it is Confusion), because there the Lord confused the language of all the people, and scattered them all over the earth.
