ReviewIn this masterwork, half-poem/half-prose novel, Vladimir Nabokov introduces us to -- among others -- Charles Kinbote, a Boswellian biographer of sorts, who endeavors to annotate a 999 line poem that's come into his possession. Along the way, though, he reveals more about his own fictional life than the poem, as the ex-king of the land of Zembla (not to be confused with the island of Zemlya). And, of course, in Zembla, they speak Zemblan: A Slavic-like historical language created by Nabokov. There are several examples of Zemblan littered throughout the book, though no grammar or word-lists, to speak of. It was intended as a device, though not an unbelievable imaginary Slavic language, by any means.
