DescriptionAtlantean was created for the film Atlantis - the Lost Empire. It is written in boustrofedon fashion: one row goes from right to left, and the next one goes from left to right; oddly, the letters are not mirrored when the writing direction is changed. "The Atlantean A is a shape developed by John Emerson. It is a miniature map of the city of Atlantis (i.e., the outside of the swirl is the cave, the inside shape is the silhouette of the city, and the dot is the location of the crystal). It's a treasure map." - Kirk Wise, Atlantis: The Lost Empire - The Illustrated Script (Abridged), p. 82
Influences

Early Indo-European. The language is designed to be evocative of a proto-World language. However, as Mattias Persson notes, "I do not know the true order of the Atlantean alphabet, but I dare to say, that if the Atlanteans had been real, they would almost certainly not put their letters in exactly the same order as the Romans did, which order we have adopted and still use, and which is the one that we usually use for the Atlantean alphabet. Also, they would not have the surplus letters of the Roman script (C, Q, X), yet these exist and are placed where they belong. (Of course, X might be a velar fricative rather than [ks], and then it would not be a surplus letter.)"

Persson also notes, "I found an unknown symbol in the Atlantean font (not mentioned at Omniglot). This symbol must stand for the number 10, since this makes sense, making the numerals work like the Roman numerals with an added zero. This system would work for numbers up to 39, then a new symbol, for 50, would be needed."
